Race & Politics

How does the NegroCon figure into this political calculous of Southern good ole boys and Northern Catholics, both traditionaly opposed to black progress?

THE GOP HAS GONE SOUTH...WITH THE NEGROCONS DRIVING MISS DAISY

In addition, white Southerners and Northern working-class Catholics have been allied throughout history against blacks. Southern whites, rich and poor alike, feared black equality because it would undermine their status as the master race in their own region. Northern Catholics feared competition with blacks for jobs and neighborhoods.

"The issue is not the issue," as the '60s saying goes. American
politics is, and always has been, tribal and regional.

That is an interesting article Noah, it says a lot but it also sends mixed signals at the same time. The writer states clearly that Republicans have used race as a means to make poor whites vote against their interest, and then he declares at the end of the piece that Democrats motto should be "I'd rather be right than president."

He mentions near the end; in order for the Democratic Party to get those white Regan Democrats back they must "downplay or repudiate their support for policies like affirmative action that discriminate against whites on the basis of their ancestry in favor of blacks and Latinos." Even this author after mentioning that Republicans use race to keep poor whites voting Republican is suggesting the Democrats do the same and it is clear that this man is not a supporter of Affirmative Action.

This author appear to believe if any Democratic presidential nominee is to ever win the white vote he must drop any support of social programs that help Black folk and Latino's. I think the article does two things, it demonstrates that Black folk are seen by some Democrats which I believe the author is, as the reason why many whites do not vote for the democratic candidate and at the same time they admit the republican party use race based politics to win the white vote and believe in order to win the white vote they must do the same.

I have often wondered is it possible for the tables to turn in this country as it did when Black folk abandon the Republican Party for the Democratic Party, If the Democratic Party becomes like the borg the Republican Party is, in that you accept our platform or find another party; the majority of Black folk may finally realize that this system is not set up to work for us or in our favor. This again is why I have absolutely no faith in the American Democratic system and believe Black folk must remove ourselves from this system that volley's us back and forth depending on the issue and from the looks of things both parties will abandon us and our issues in the near future.

Yes, that is keen observation my brother. What is evident in this article is the fact that our obstacles as black people cannot be solved via the two party system…because they are both dominated by white interest…an interest that is often anti-black interest. In light of this, my strategy to use vote stoppage to give bargaining leverage to black people would not work. The reason being that it would alienate the white base of the Democratic Party, pushing some of them to the Republicans. Thus, we are back to civil disobedience and unrest as being the only viable option.

It is the only option that have produced results for us, and it is the single most used option around the world. We should take note of that.

How do you guys define results. The state of black America has improved significantly over the last 20 years in many ways without civil unrest.

Civil unrest might be fun and news worthy but that doesn't mean its the only way to improve our lot.

None can deny that Black men and women condition today in 2004 is not what it was 20 years ago, but you hold a man head under three feet of water and raise it up a foot and half his head would still be under water. This is the kind of progress Black men and women in America have experienced. The exploding industrial prison Complex, the condition of public schools, the lack of health care in our community proves all of this. Sure a few of us have managed to attain a little money but our people suffer while turncoats like you have set your price and our open enemy have paid your reserve price and now you do their bidding. Progress is not accepting the ideology of imperialist and then helping him spread that imperialism but apparently the Negro-Cons like you believe so.

That's funny. Didn't the colonists start a "civil unrest" war to "put things right" with King George? And it was civil unrest that forced King John to sign the Magna Carta. It seems to me that civil unrest is most effective and Martin Luther King, Jr. proved that.
