Kofi Annan says that the Iraq war was illegal!
Finally…its about time that someone of note spelled out the truth. However, the “coalition of the willing” has is bound to vehemently reject the position of the Head of the UN. Britain has already come out and said that it rejects Annan’s conclusion.
The contradiction that needs to be addressed, for me, is how the coalition can have used the UN resolutions as the bases for their invasion, yet, reject the UN rules in regards to when it is legal to go to war, according to UN charter. Why does the coalition presidents and prime ministers, think they understand the UN rules better than its acting president?

Before the slaughter
"It was sent to U.N. headquarters in New York by Major General Roméo Dallaire, U.N. force commander in Rwanda. Dallaire urgently requested protection for an informant who outlined to him Hutu plans being made to exterminate Tutsis; to provoke and kill Belgian troops so as to guarantee Belgium's withdraw from Rwanda; and the location of interahamwe arm caches. Everything Dallaire's informant told him came true three months later.
General Dallaire received a reply the same day. It came from the desk of Kofi Annan, then head of U.N. peacekeeping. Dallaire was told the U.N. didn't agree with his plan to raid the arm caches and furthermore, he must inform the president of Rwanda what he had learned from the informant, even though it was the president's own inner circle that was planning the slaughter of Tutsis. "
Stop ranting for a moment and Judge Koffi by his actions and not the color of his skin.
He was directly involved in the death of hundreds of thousands. I gave you a link do the research.
The orginal post is about Koffi or did you miss that ?
The words of a Black Man who allowed a million African's to die because he refused to allow the peace keepers to prevent it is not worthly of you guys quoting and he should have no moral authority amoung anyone who cares about Africa.
What you say about Kofi could be vacuously true or false for that matter; I cannot say that I have the ability to bear witness to the truth. However, true or false, the UN charter is an objective and not subjective criterion. Thus, his statements can be corroborated independent of and notwithstanding his credibility. A UN Security Council resolution was needed for the US to legally invade Iraq, to meet the international standards of legality. They US side stepped this requirement when they knew they would not get the votes, thus, they acted illegally by INTERNATIONAL standards. Now, of course the US, Britain and Australia is not going to self incriminating themselves by making such an admission…who would. They have PLENTY to lose if they did…..however, what does Kofi have to gain or lose by making such a statement that is supported by strict interpretation of the UN charter?
Why Scott, Why... Why is it you can not see pass the sentence that is coming from that head of yours.
How do Kofi Anan’s crimes against humanity make his indictment of Bush and the actions of the U.S. in Iraq any less truthful? We are not judging the truth by the character of the person speaking it. Truth is not dependent on the character, morality or the lack of these things from the person speaking it. A thief can accuse someone of theft, a liar can accuse someone of lying and be telling the truth. Kofi Anan personal failures as a human being and a Black man do not contradict the truth of his statements.
This argument coming from a Negro-Con like you is interesting being that one of the many complaints Conservatives, (the Negro ones and the White ones) have is that the law restricting the U.S. from using shady characters to bring down bigger fish is limiting what they can do. Kofi Anan's failures and short comings make him the kind of person that Conservatives want on their payroll regardless of his crimes.
Lastly, Kofi Anan is not speaking from a standpoint of morality, he is speaking from the position of being Head of the UN and knowing its charters, thus who better than him to say when someone has violated the agreements and rules of the UN.
Your post say "Finally…its about time that someone of note spelled out the truth."
Well he is not a person of note in my book. He is directly responsible for the death of a million africans.
If wish to ignore it, or stick your head in the sand by saying "i can't bear witness" then fine. But despite our difference in tatics/strategy I thought you were good guys who believed in doing right by blacks and african's world wide but apparently the facts have no bearing on your world view.
Sad really.
NOw you are obviously obfuscating and using misdirection, as well as, digression. If you want to try Kofi, then you need to try him seperate from the Trial against the US acting illegally. I am not saying he is guilty or not guility in regards to what you accuse. I and we are saying that is besides the point...and you not dang skippy that is what we are saying...but you know you lack a credible comeback so now you are insulting our intelligence by trying to get us to appeal to "blackness" conscerning the horrors in Rwanda...thus ignoring the Horror that the US has illegally unleashed upon Iraq.
